Peterson, a ranking member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, served as the committee’s chairman for two terms beginning in 2007. During his time as leader, he oversaw the passage of the 2008 Farm Bill and was a key player in addressing financial reform.
Among those who spoke at the ceremony: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R- Okla., and former Agriculture Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R- Va. His portrait was accepted by Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio.
