Franken discusses his questions for Supreme Court nominee Kagan

Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., said Friday that he wants to hear more details about how U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan would approach legal issues related to a Comcast plan to purchase NBC Universal.

The Associated Press has a story about what Franken said:

ST. PAUL — U.S. Sen. Al Franken says he plans to ask Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan how she would approach legal issues raised by Comcast Corp.’s proposed purchase of NBC Universal.

Franken sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee that will start hearings on Kagan’s confirmation on Monday.

He said Friday in St. Paul that Kagan seems qualified but he wants more details about how she would approach issues including employee rights, court access and antitrust cases.

Franken has been outspoken with concerns over the Comcast-NBC combination. He says he is concerned that cable subscribers could face higher bills if Comcast buys a controlling stake in NBC.

He says he hopes to hear that the issue is important to Kagan.
